Saint Lucia Broadens Definition of Dependants

The Government of Saint Lucia has made amendments to the Citizenship by Investment Act by means of Act 4 of 2020. The principal act has been amended to broaden the definition of who can be included as dependant by the Main applicant in a citizenship by investment application in Saint Lucia. The amendments are intended to make the Saint Lucia programme more competitive and now together with Grenada's citizenship by investment programme is allowing siblings of the main applicant to be included in the application.

The New Amendments of the Saint Lucia Citizenship by Investment Programme

By virtue of these amendments, the Main Applicant may include the following dependants in an application:

  • A spouse of the Main Applicant,
  • A child of the Main Applicant or of the Spouse who is 21 years of age or below
  • A child of the Main applicant or of the Spouse who is no more than 30 years of age and is fully supported by the Main Applicant
  • A child of the Main applicant or of the Spouse who is physically or mentally challenged
  • A parent of the Main applicant or of the Spouse who is above 55 years of age and fully supported by the Main Applicant
  • A parent of the Main applicant or of the Spouse, of any age, if physically or mentally challenged
  • A brother or a sister of the Main Applicant, who is unmarried, below the age of 18 and who has received the consent of his/her parent or guardian to be included in a citizenship application

The Act also clarifies the situation with regard to those dependants that can be added to an existing application for Saint Lucia Citizenship once the Main Applicant is approved. The amendment holds that dependants can be added at a future stage, under any investment option that was and is no longer restricted to cases of an  investment under the National Economic Fund Option.
