Montenegro Economic Citizenship Programme (MECP) Updates

After years of discussions, the Government of Montenegro has finally launched the criteria applicable for investors to contribute to the Montenegro Citizenship by Investment Programme through Government Gazette 79/2018 (item no. 1564) from 05.12.2018 released yesterday. This publication highlighted the criteria which must be satisfied as well as the application procedure which must be followed by individuals for them to be considered eligible for the programme.

Montenegro Economic Citizenship Programme (MECP) Eligibility

For the applicant to make use of the programme, the following criteria must be satisfied

•    The main applicant must be at least 18 years of age
•    He must be a non-EU national
•    A non-refundable contribution of €100,000 must be made to the government
•    An investment in real estate in Montenegro must be made, which may follow either one of the following:
               -  A €250,000 investment in a government approved project in an underdeveloped region of Montenegro, or
               -  A €450,000 investment in a government approved project within a developed region of Montenegro

As can be noted, the programme offers different forms of investment, allowing applicants to choose between the different areas in which their real estate investment can be made. With the official approval of the aforementioned criteria by the Government of Montenegro, the Montenegro Economic Citizenship Programme (MECP) will officially be accepting applications as of 1st January 2019 till the 31st December 2021.
